SavvyAuthors is Seeking Workshop Proposals for the Remainder of 2014 and All of 2015.
SavvyAuthors, a website for authors in all genres, is accepting proposals from interested instructors and presenters for our 2014/2015 education program. We are seeking in-depth, well-structured workshops that address the needs of both beginning and advanced students in the areas of craft, promotion, publishing and areas of expertise of interest to writers. We are open to a range of teaching styles including forum and chat based mixtures. Our workshops are conducted via a bulletin board based forum that can function like an email loop or list. We can also accommodate webinars, Skype, video, and podcasting.At this time we are accepting proposals for workshops of all lengths including 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks, 3 to 5-day intensives on a tightly focused topic, and longer mentoring programs. All workshops are open to anyone regardless of membership in SavvyAuthors. Our stipend structure is based on a split of the class fees. Savvy Authors is open to considering first time workshop presenters.
Specific topics we are looking for include ( listed in decreasing order of our member’s interest):
Writing craft at all levels from beginning to advanced “tune-ups” ( GMC, Plotting, Grammar, Dialog etc.)
Story structure such as novel, short stories, and novellas
Self-editing best practices and process
Writing genre-specific fiction from Romance to Mystery, to SciFi to Sports, to YA and NA and beyond
General interest topics for story background such as medical, history, science, travel, business.
Navigating the channels of social media and publicity for authors
Publishing, from traditional to self-publishing and everything in between
Indie pub topics focused on how to get a book on the shelves and how to attract readers when its there
Dealing with business and legalities of writing and publishing from taxes to LLCs to contracts and beyond
Anything that you think is useful or critical for an author to know at any point in her or his career.
We are also looking for experienced professionals and instructors interested in one on one mentoring.
Preference will be given to instructors willing to present exclusively for SavvyAuthors in scheduling and stipend percentage. Preference will also be given to new workshops (never before presented online) or workshops that haven’t been presented online in the 18 preceding months. For all other workshops we ask for a commitment to not present the workshop online within 3 months of presentation through SavvyAuthors.
Instructors and presenters will be asked to provide a complete course promotion package, including a finished course description, a bio and promotional information along with the submission package.
We provide a class roster and a detailed accounting listing participants and amount paid by each. The stipend, unless otherwise specified, is 50% of fees plus a yearly membership valued at $40. We pay the Monday that falls 15 days after the last day of class for classes 4 weeks or less.
We make every effort to promote the workshops as widely as possible and ask our instructors to do the same. Therefore we also ask our instructors to guest blog 2-4 weeks prior to the workshop as a part of the promotion for same. We also encourage you to offer a chat prior to the workshop as well as a chat as a part of the workshop experience. We begin social media promotion 6-8 weeks prior to the first day of class.
