A Full-Time and Freelance Editor says
I applied for this job a year ago and got as far as turning in their first editing test. I did everything exactly as asked, including Word change tracking and specific file naming. Shortly after I was informed that they weren’t interested anymore. I know I did a good job because I already edit professionally for a living. When I asked my point of contact specifically why I was turned down I was told she couldn’t tell me even if she knew. I honestly think it’s because they didn’t want a new male editor. Looking through other romance and erotica publishing sites’ editing staff pages it’s obvious that they primarily want female editors for understandable, yet unfounded reasons, but isn’t turning someone down for a job based on gender illegal in the US?
