When his gaze touched me, it had weight, and my shoulders hunched to make me the smallest target possible for his rage. I kept from squeezing my eyes shut but it was a near thing. His anger saturated the air until it reeked of his fury and dangerous intent.
When he reached for me, I stood my ground. I was weak, but I was not a coward; he would not make me one. Squaring my shoulders, I forced my head up until my gaze held his.
